About Screen DPI Calculator

The Screen DPI Calculator helps you determine the pixel density of any display. DPI (dots per inch) or PPI (pixels per inch) measures how many pixels fit into one inch of screen space. Higher DPI means sharper text, crisper images, and smoother curves. Use this tool to compare monitors, verify laptop specs, or check if your phone qualifies as "Retina" display.

FAQ

What is the difference between DPI and PPI?

DPI (dots per inch) traditionally refers to printed dots, while PPI (pixels per inch) refers to screen pixels. In practice, the terms are often used interchangeably for displays. This calculator shows both.

What is a good DPI for a monitor?

For desktop monitors, 100–150 DPI is typical. 150–220 DPI is excellent (Retina territory for typical viewing distances). Above 220 DPI is exceptional. For phones, 400–500+ DPI is common.

Why does my 4K TV look less sharp than my laptop?

Pixel density depends on both resolution AND screen size. A 4K 27″ monitor has ~163 DPI, while a 4K 55″ TV has only ~80 DPI. You sit closer to a laptop, so higher DPI is needed.

Is my data safe?

Absolutely. All calculations happen entirely in your browser. No data is transmitted to any server.
