About Slugging Percentage Calculator

Slugging percentage (SLG) measures a batter's power productivity by weighting hits based on total bases. Singles count as 1, doubles as 2, triples as 3, and home runs as 4. The formula is: SLG = (1B + 2×2B + 3×3B + 4×HR) / AB. Unlike batting average, SLG rewards extra-base hits. An SLG above .500 is excellent, .450-.500 is good, .400-.450 is average, and below .400 is below average. Isolated Power (ISO = SLG - BA) measures pure power by removing the effect of singles. Common Use Cases

Frequently Asked Questions

What is a good slugging percentage?

In Major League Baseball, an SLG of .450+ is considered good, .500+ is excellent, and .600+ is elite (MVP territory). League average typically hovers around .400-.420.

What is Isolated Power (ISO)?

Isolated Power (ISO) is calculated as SLG minus batting average (BA). It measures a player's raw power by removing singles from the equation. An ISO of .200+ indicates excellent power, .150-.200 is good, and .100-.150 is average.

Does SLG include walks?

No, slugging percentage only uses at-bats in the denominator. Walks, hit-by-pitch, and sacrifice flies are not included. For a metric that combines on-base ability with power, use OPS (On-base Plus Slugging).

Can this calculator be used for softball?

Yes! The SLG formula is identical for baseball and softball. However, softball benchmarks may differ slightly — check your league's typical ranges for context.
